Sixteen Strollers met at the Oriam Centre at Riccarton Heriot Watt campus for a walk round the grounds. The Oriam is Scotland's Sport Performance Centre and plays host to the Scottish Rugby team, amongst others, who were actually training while we were there.
It turned out to be a rather soggy walk with ‘Strolling in the rain’ as a subtext. This didn’t deter anyone and we set off round on the path through the woods, passing the fitness apparatus on the way which no-one seemed keen to try out. Coming out of the woods we met up with the main road through the campus and then worked our way down past the student accommodation and had a pause at the Millennium Garden.
From
here we worked our way round past the research areas and back under the trees
to make our way to the pond, then on to the lawn area which is where
Riccarton House used to stand. It was then a short step to the bus terminus for
those wanting to finish there and not too far back to the car parks and the
cafes for a refreshment before going home to dry out.
Hopefully
the July walk will be drier.
